This review focuses on KDE 4.1, the latest release the K Desktop Environment series. It was officially released on July 29th, 2008. There is no much hype regarding the new release since the older 4.0 was full of bugs. Still KDE remains one of the favorite desktop environment for GNU/Linux OS till date.
KDE 4.1 comes with significant positive changes in graphics and desktop experience. But still its not error free which is disappointing. The entire set of desktops, frames and panels are collectively called plasma in the new version(KDE4). This replaces the old Kdesktop in the older version. A new multimedia interface called Phonon has been added.This makes the KDE desktop enviornment independent of any particular media backend. Decibel is a new applicaition framework introduced in KDE to incorporate all the communication protocols in general to the K desktop. The amjor technologies introduced in KDE 4 could be summarised as follows:
- Plasma : A desktop and panel widget engine
- Phonon : A multimedia framework
- Solid : A device integration framework
- Sonnet : A spell checker
- ThreadWeaver : A library to more effectively use multiprocessor systems

why do you blog content publishers continue to use relative terms such as "significant positive changes" and "praised by kde fans" and write with blinders on? there is very little positive anything about kde4 and a lot of people are not praising it. it isn't criticized on the grounds of instability. it's critized because of the unwelcome revolutionary changes that a lot of people don't want. all it does is add widgets to the desktop.
this project is flawed from the beginning because of widgets. even if it had no bugs many people still wouldn't use it because widgets are stupid. it's flawed because of the way it's being pushed onto people and i'm not gonna buy into the hype.
hey, i love creative desktops. compiz, enlightenment, looking glass, are all beautiful things but i ultimately do not use them. kde4 is a beautiful thing also but i ain't gonna use it because i hate widgets.
Well then.... You have your opinion and your likes and dislikes.... You might think kde 4.1 and widgets are stupid, I on the other hand Do Like it. So...
I will be using Kde in the future, you won't. nuff said. Stop complaining.
